FIRST GENERATION COMPUTER

Advantages:

- Could perform thousands of calculations each second. They were the fastest calculating devices of all time.

- Made possible the advent of electronic digital computers.

- It was the only electronic components during those days.

Disadvantages:

-      Too bulky in size.

-      Unreliable.

-      Emitted large amount of heat and burnt out frequently.

-      Prone to frequent hardware failures.

SECOND GENERATION COMPUTER

Advantages:

-      Smaller in size as compared to the first generation computer.

-      More reliable.

-      Better portability as compared to the first generation computers.

-      Used less energy and were not heated as much as first generation computer.

Disadvantages:

-      Only used for specific purposes.

-      Punch cards were used for input.

-      Costly and not versatile.

THIRD GENERATION COMPUTER

Advantages:

-      More accurate than previous computers.

-      Could be use for high level language.

-      Better speed and could calculate data in nanoseconds.

-      Used less energy.

Disadvantages:

-      Air conditioning was required.

-      Highly sophisticated technology required for the manufacturing of IC chips.

FOURTH GENERATION COMPUTER

Advantages:

-      Fast processing power with less power consumption.

-      All types of high level language can be used in this type of computers.

-      More powerful and reliable than previous generations.

Disadvantages:

-      The latest technology required for manufacturing of Microprocessors.

FIFTH GENERATION COMPUTER (Artificial Intelligence)

Advantages:

-      Reliable and works faster.

-      Available in different sizes with different features.

Disadvantages:

-      A disadvantage of fifth generation computers is that they can give more power to companies to watch what you are doing and even allow them to infect your computer. Another disadvantage is that they tend to be sophisticated and complex tools.
